We are trying to save 16745 [R745 DRJ]. 16745 is a bus, more specifically, a Volvo Olympian, with an Alexander RL/Belfast body. It has a VOITH 3-Speed gearbox, and a Volvo D10A 10 litre engine. It was new to Greater Manchester Buses (Stagecoach in Manchester), as fleet number 745 in June 1998, It was new in the well known Stagecoach Classic Stripes Livery and was repainted into the newer Beachball livery, about 4 or 5 years later, which it has been in ever since. It stayed in Manchester for the next 10 years and then was transferred to Stagecoach South, in late 2008/early 2009 and was based at Portsmouth Depot for the majority of the time, if not the whole time. It was used on Cheltenham Races Shuttle Services, in 2011 and then transferred to Hastings Depot shortly after, on the 16th of September 2011. It had major improvement work done to the bus throughout, it had chassis welding done to it, a major interior refurbishment, with all the seat covers replaced with new ones and also improvement work done to the engine. It's exterior and interior are in excellent condition and 16745 has been one of the most reliable buses in service in Hastings to date. As well as this, 16745 is one of the very few last Volvo Olympians left in service with Stagecoach in the whole UK, and there are no Volvo Olympians with the same Alexander RL bodywork preserved, to our knowledge and if so there are very few. This bus is also fantastic and has a very amazing sounding engine and gearbox. Please help with this petition, if you agree that it should be saved - and help try to save a very wonderful bus. Another reason we believe this should be saved is because it is, of course, a Volvo Olympians, a type of bus which have been in service in Hastings, East Sussex, South East England and the whole world since around 1992, when Volvo took over manafacture of the "Olympian" from Leyland, who shut down and were bought out by Volvo. Volvo Olympians were and still are very reliable buses, even more reliable than some of the modern ones. They have survived (and still are surving) an amazingly long time for a bus, about 24 years, and they are still going very strong with very very few issues. They are one of the most robust buses ever made. This bus and other Olympians are hugely loved by enthusiasts, the general public, drivers and even school children alike. Out of all the Olympians left in the South East, 16745 is one of the Olympians in best condition out of all of them and sadly unless there is somebody interested in purchasing 16745, it's fete will be a scrapyard, like where Stagecoach are most likely sending all of the rest after their strong and reliable 2 decades in service. You may not realise it yet but 16745 and the other Olympians are iconic and historic buses.
