In June of this year our 10 month old daughter, Violet Lucia was diagnosed with Leukemia requiring numerous prolonged stays in Cottage Hospital's Pediatric Unit. Stays ranged from 5 to 40+ days at time. During these prolonged stays it became very apparent that the interim Pediatrics Unit was not capable of providing the patients and their families with adequate space, bathroom facilities, and Privacy. In our time within the Interim Pediatrics unit (formerly Adult ICU) we have learned that a short term interim solution has been in place for nearly 2 years and will remain there until the end of 2014. We have also learned that another interim solution will be required until 2018 when the new pavillion is scheduled to be completed. We are looking for members of the community to support the cause of improving the Pediatrics Unit at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for both the interim and ends state. We want to show The Administrators of Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by October 18th that the Community wants better for their children now and going forward. Your support will help convey the importance and priority required to improve the conditions for Pediatrics Patients and their families.
I really thought this might just stay under the radar but the momentum is suddenly everywhere and honestly it feels like people are finally seeing what we saw in those cramped rooms. It is overwhelming in the best way possible because reading your stories makes me realize we are definitely not alone in this fight for a better space for the kids.

Poor planning. They need to prioritize the kids over everything else.

Fix this now!! 2018 is way too far away. These kids deserve a real hospital environment.

Spent 30 days there and it was a nightmare. Hard to focus on getting your kid better when the facility is falling apart like that.

Ridiculous that this has been going on for years. Families need a decent place to stay while their kids fight for their lives.

My son spent weeks in those rooms and it was just plain awful. Cramped, loud, and zero privacy for families going through the worst time of their lives. Do better.

My thoughts are with little Violet. Nobody should have to deal with these conditions while their baby is sick.
