In January myself and a friend were assaulted by a group of guys. The attack was unprovoked and was unseen. It happened in a place that I have always until then felt safe. I am going to approach my local MP about increasing street lighting in the area so hopefully it deters people from committing this crime again and hopefully allow people to feel safe in their local area.
Kirkgate Park (by Leeds Minster and Mecca Bingo) is a completely unlit park and as provides criminals a veil of invisibility. The area is no longer safe at night time and this shouldn’t go on. I am writing to my MP and police commissioner about increasing lighting in the area and ask for your support in this matter.
I am currently gathering all these signatures to present them directly to the local police commissioner this week. Please email your local council representatives today to demand new lighting fixtures for our park. We need to keep the pressure on them until the work begins.

The momentum behind this petition proves that our neighbors are tired of walking through the dark at night. Post this link on your Facebook page to ensure our council members cannot ignore our demand for safe lighting. Email your local representative today to insist on an immediate safety review for Kirkgate Park.

Very dangerous area at night. Lots of young men and women walking this very unsafe route home at night.

I work next to the park and it is a crime hotspot on both sides of the park additional lighting and cameras should be added as a deterrent.

no one should be attacked on the streets of Leeds or anywhere. No doubt the criminals have gotten away with this and thus will continue to use this area to commit more crimes in the very near future.

I feel unsafe enough in this area during the daytime.
