Traffic Calming On Halifax Road Briercliffe
Speeding Traffic On Halifax Rd, Briercliffe - Support For Traffic Calming
As you’re probably aware the conduct / speed of traffic on Halifax Road is totally unacceptable for a 30MPH zone, given that this is a largely residential area with young children regularly using the road. From Lane Bottom village up to Robin House Lane a large part of the footpath is very narrow or non-existent which poses a further risk when cars treat the road as a motorway with no regard / consideration for people using wheelchairs, prams, walkers, runners, cyclists, horses etc…
Apparently the County Council Highways Department will not take action to implement traffic calming measures on Halifax Road until their statistics report something like a fatal RTA which I am sure you will agree is absolutely disgusting!!
We have raised this at the Briercliffe Parish Council meeting and have the full support of all members, the Police, and County Councillor Margaret Brindle.
Councillor Brindle believes that something can be done to resolve the issue in the form of speed cameras, pinch points, footpath improvements etc…without the need for huge speed bumps. She is currently pushing the case with the LCC Highways department. Also our local Community Police (PACT) are planning to conduct speed surveys and traffic speed monitoring at the worse times of the day and this is their No.1 priority for July.
In order to support the cause it would be much appreciated if you could please add your names and address (in comments section) to this petition? If you don't have an e-mail address make one up, and if you know of anyone outside of the area who supports this please ask them to sign the petition – More the merrier J!!
We are sure as a local resident we have your full support to make Halifax Road a safer place.
Thanks in anticipation of your help & support J
Best Regards
