Started by Success Academy Bensonhurst Parents 7 years, 11 months ago

Success Academy is a network of schools that follow a unique system of rules in order to carry out its vision of educating children. At the Bensonhurst location of Success Academy, the parent body has always strived to work with the school's teachers, administration and staff to support them in their very difficult work of making this possible. Even when the rules are challenging or counterintuitive for our children, we do our best to support the school in enforcing them.

This school year, 2018-2019, a new rule has been added to the already long list. "Scholars will not be allowed to bring in snacks from home to consume during snack time." While we appreciate that the school provides our children with snacks and lunch each day, such a rule severely undermines the parents' unalienable right to choose what their children consume. Besides the menu sent out in the communications with the school, we as the parents have no information about the brands, ingredients or nutritional value of the food served to our children. If, for whatever reason, we disagree with the food presented to our children, we are not given the option to provide them with a snack from home that aligns with our families' nutritional values. This is unacceptable and must be changed. The undersigned agree and ask that this policy be abolished immediately as this matter is outside of the school's jurisdiction and instead must be decided by the parents.

Kids should be able to consume healthy and hearty snacks and parents should be given an opportunity to provide them.

Parents should be allowed to pack a snack for their children. The school has allowed it for the past few years and changing it dramatically will effect how the children's day will go. Many rely on the snacks their parents pack for them.

Our kids are from different cultures and they should be able to eat the food they used to. No one should dictate what my child have to eat. It is unacceptable that any kid would have to stay hungry until lunch, which is around 1-1.30pm. Please turn back previous policy!

My children are picky in times about the food that provide from school, I need to make sure they eat in order to have a healthy body for all school activities

Freedom means choice! Give our scholars a choice to bring a healthy snack alternative they will at least eat and not waste.

Kids won't eat snacks they don't like. Parents ability to send food from home ensures they will eat at snack time which allows them to perform their best at school.
