The Department of Housing automatically charges every residence student approximately $242.00/year for room phones, regardless if the service is used or not. Unlike other services such as the CUSA Health Plan, students are NOT given the option to opt-out of this service and receive their money back. RRRA believes this is unfair because the majority of students who live in residence do not use their room phones and it is unfair to charge them nearly $250.00 for a service they don't use. That's money that could be used to buy a textbook or two! We understand that there are students who take advantage of this service and it is not our intention to eliminate phones from every room in residence. We simply want to give students the option to opt-out if they feel they will not take advantage of their room phones. If you believe that room phones should have an opt-out option, sign this petition! We will submit this petition to the Department of Housing in hopes that an opt-out option can be created. Let your voice be heard! $250.00 is a lot of money that shouldn't be put to waste.
