The Round Rock Leader ran a story yesterday expressing excitement over the success of Round Rock's new state of the art sports facility. It states that 1000 people descended on the complex for a recent event. That is great news Imagine the excitement of a 1000 swimmer event attended by the swimmer's parents and siblings! What does that number look like? That is an event with impact for our community. Round Rock's location gives it great potential as a swimming venue. If this type of a facility makes it onto a bond I will support it in every way that I can. I hope you will too.

San Antonio and Houston school districts have multiple indoor pools and we have none in the whole metroplex!

If designed and managed correctly, a natatorium in the Round Rock area would be an enormous benefit to our community. Currently, high school swimmers in the Round Rock District must travel a minimum of 60 miles for meets in locations like Burnet, Belton, Killeen, Temple, as well as San Antonio, College Station, etc. I know UT is just down the interstate, but since it is the only facility able to handle large competitions in the area, opportunities for high school meets are extremely limited.

Swimming continues to grow as a sport for both boys and girls. It has been a driving force and motivator for my daughter and for so many other students. As we have traveled the state and the country visiting so many facilities, we have often wondered why RRISD has not ventured to open a similar venue. I encourage all swimming families to support this endeavor.

Everyone... we really need to do this right. We need to come together as a united group and lobby for this to happen. We need our ducks in a row and have financial figures ready when asked. We need to contact other districts where they have built swim centers and get some financials from them. We need to get all the swim clubs united for this. I suggest a meeting before the ISD meeting so we can come up with a representative that is used to speaking in public and is well known and respected within the community. Hopefully we have someone like that. We need a facebook page and twitter page so we can communicate more effectively.

I'm on the board of a local swim club, so I know local swim team and swim meets would offset cost. Round Rock is at the point and size to have a Natatorium.
