There is a possibility that the use of the rooms above the common room will change in future, with the likelihood that they become teaching spaces again. They will be shut from the 26th June whilst their use is under review. Whilst we understand that this is not permanent the issue will be allowed to be discussed amongst prefects and staff. This petition is to show the number of people that will be affected by the change of use of these rooms and to help support the discussion.

Please sign this petition if you would like to be able to use these rooms socially at break and lunch, and for independent study sessions during lesson times.

The silence from the office is still heavy but we are continuing to gather names in the background. It feels like an uphill climb lately and I am exhausted by the uncertainty of it all. Still we are holding our ground because these spaces belong to us.

The scale of this response is overwhelming and proves how much these rooms mean to our daily lives. I am exhausted by the uncertainty of this process but looking at the names here gives me the strength to keep pushing for our space.

Beautiful to see students taking action themselves and working together, yet disappointing that the closing of the rooms is the cause of it.

I strongly believe the rooms above the common room contain the spirit of the mighty team that is Sixth Form!

The rooms above the common room are used for a reason. That reason is that the common room itself is not a working environment, not somewhere people can go to work during their free periods. To prohibit use of these rooms would be the school preventing studying in a calm and focused environment and would only be detrimental to our learning.

The upper sixth form is used as a social space and study room. The sheer majority of students who use it for either of these purposes respect the rooms and always try to be considerate of others in the study space.

There is not enough room in the common room, we have invested our own time in cleaning these rooms (going as far as to empty our own bins) as the cleaner barely touches them. When students are putting this much effort into the upkeep of their social area it is unfair to remove them. Compare this to the state of the tables and chairs and the rubbish left in the common room and elsewhere in the school.

Shame to see Gordano Sixth Form taking a step backwards, although this comes at no surprise.
