A charity is in the process of being set up in memory of resident Gordon Ireland who was knocked down and killed on the A38 in Rooksbridge recently. The main intention of this charity is to raise funds towards, or perhaps totally for, the introduction of a pelican crossing or refuge island in the heart of the village. Also residents intend to present a petition to the Somerset County Council outlining the need of a safe crossing point. This is not the first fatality on this stretch of road. Many of our children are forced to take risks crossing the A38 in order to use the School buses. A simple crossing for pedestrians would hopefully eliminate any further tradgedies!
