The Great Barrier Reef is healthy and thriving, but our Aussie farmers are drowning in red tape. We need to turn back the Reef Regulations imposed under the Queensland Government’s Environmental Protection (Great Barrier Reef Protection Measures) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019.
Our farmers are committed stewards of the land and sea, and our farmers feed all Australians. Protect them against over-regulation that is pushing them to the wall.
The science used to impose the 2019 Reef Regulations Amendment Bill is unchecked, as is all Marine Science in Australia. Marine Geophysicist and Great Barrier Reef expert Dr Peter Ridd is standing alongside farmer groups who are taking the battle over the stealthy rise of Reef Regulations, and the continued use of unchecked science when making legislation, direct to the Queensland and Federal Governments.
This petition is calling for the Environmental Protection (Great Barrier Reef Protection Measures) and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2019 to be revoked. It also demands the establishment of an Office of Science Quality Assurance to check the science being used to make political decisions.

I wish to support Dr Peter Ridd to get the Science Checked on our Great Barrier Reef and support our farmers to revoke the 2019 Reef Laws. Thank you Peter for the work you do for the benefit of all Australians.
If the government has funded the research, then the government deserves to have this research independently verified to determine whether this Act is based on good science, and is not the output of activists wearing lab coats.
I retired in 2006 from being a senior scientist with the Australian Institute of Marine Science. Based on experience in my latter years at AIMS and since, I think we need, most distinctly, some better mechanism for checking the quality of scientific studies done on the GBR.
With all the added hardship this has added to primary producers, if a qualified researcher says this legislation is flawed, then it needs to be looked into. This impacts families livelihoods, which then in turn, impact on our country.
No regulations should be passed unless they have a appropriately scrutinised and confirmed scientific data to support the need for their introduction. Ignoring farmer provided scientific data that challenges the desired political outcome, is indefensible!
I endorse all of the proponent's comments I have seen regarding this petition.
As a Chartered Civil Engineer I support Professor Peter Ridd's proposal that the Act should be revoked.

This is so hypocritical towards farmers and we need farmers to grow fresh food for our nation and the government statement of figures appears fraudulent to push an agenda without informed information or has deliberately fudged the figures either way the amendment should be rescinded.
