Support Glenview development by signing this petition.

This will increase retail options, tax revenue, and property values.

To achieve this, we must develop the former Bess site as proposed by the village and Glenview resident developer Drake properties. This is the next step to initiate a cascade of growth. We understand that several citizens living adjacent to an underdeveloped downtown would like to keep it that way, however, this would cost the rest of us too much by keeping storefronts vacant and passing up opportunities for growth and revenue for Glenview.

SUCCESSFUL LOCAL BUSINESSES ATTRACT MORE BUSINESSES Current business on Glenview Rd SUPPORT this plan. More residents increase density, and thus demand. Density is necessary for businesses to be profitable, succeed and stay open in today's online purchasing climate. This will add diversity to the current offerings in town. Demand for space will initiate redevelopment of the commercial property hodgepodge. The long term goal is to create a downtown Glenview vibrant and more appealing for cross-selling opportunities for new businesses.

ADDITIONAL BUSINESSES = MORE SALES TAX revenue. This in turn helps to keep local taxes down and/or add to other Glenview resources.

WHAT IS THE ALTERNATIVE to the current plan as proposed? Nothing. An empty building. An outdated blight of a downtown that no developer or bank will want to invest in. This also sends the message to potential banks/developers that residents do not support financially sound modern development. The village cannot dictate what a bank is willing to finance into development. The banks decide what developments they will lend money to build.

WHAT ABOUT THE 2006 PLAN? In 2006 we were enjoying flip phones, there was no such thing as UBER, and Amazon was just selling books. The retail landscape has changed, transportation needs are different, and banks factor that into their decision making process when lending development money. This proposed cornerstone development will satisfy the needs of the businesses for foot traffic, while also providing justification for another developer and bank to both invest in and bring more attractive retail space to a burgeoning area.
