Let’s collectively voice out our concerns about the recent eviction of Medical students from Alexander Brown Hall due to their protest against the new fees introduced by the College of Medicine (COM), University of Ibadan, Nigeria.

Updates

April 9, 2018

The momentum behind this fight is proof that the University of Ibadan cannot simply silence students for demanding fair treatment. Management is watching the pressure mount and they are starting to feel the heat of their own shameful decisions.

The recent increase in the school fees of U.I medical students should be vehemently condemned..Its sad that the masses are always at the receiving end.Its also quite unfortunate that the students were locked outside for venting out their minds through the peaceful protest.. Nigeria must wake up..

I sign this petition to demand a reversal of the inhuman, inconsiderate and ungodly hike in accommodation fee and newly introduced Health Professional Training Levy.

In conflict resolution, all parties must first return to the statusquo , this will allow an all inclusive and reasonable deliberation. Such hikes in fees at this time in our country is rather insensitive to the plight of the medical students. I hope the authorities will work very hard to ensure that this whole thing is resolved amicable so that these lads can proceed with their training.

Medical school is not kindergarten, it is utterly unfair to add to the pre-existing pressures of being a medical student. Our school authorities must not be quick to forget what it was to be medical students. Other ways to acquire funding must be explored.

Patience and understandings are required from the administrations to handle the issue of new levies ,many of those students are indigents ,we should do everything to support them not to chastise them in this period of economic difficulties being faced by the country and institutions.

We humbly ask for COM, UI to reconsider the decision to eject Med students from ABH. Let’s all (students and faculty) come to the table and reach a decision that considers our perspectives while seeking collective advancement.
