My two sisters go to this school. And I attended myself freshman year. The dress code has always been ridiculous. But this... this is outrageous. Singling out innocent scared children who have heard thousands of horror stories of high school and making them targets to bullies. The goal should instead be making them feel equal to the other grades and they should be treated the same. Think of all the kids who self harm from bullying. Do you really want to up those numbers or be the cause of suicides because you decided to single them out for the bullies and them get bullied till they can't take anymore?! Dress code really needs to be reconsidered.

Wow, as a upcoming freshman I strongly dislike this dress code. This doesn't help ANYTHING . I know I'm not the only freshman who is afraid about getting bullied on the 1st to 2nd week of school for being a freshman . East Ridge is making it hard for freshman . The dress code needs to change quickly . I can already see myself walking through the hallways getting laughed at . We should wear what all the upperclassman wear or just wear appropriate out of dress code . East Ridge is making it horrible by changing the dress code ...

This change to the dress code is just ridiculous and waaay too late to implement. It's not fair to parents to pull this stunt right before school starts and have them run out to buy polos especially when they are not on sale. My son has a plethora of school spirit shirts he wears as he prefers those to the polos and he is disgusted he now can only wear them on Fridays. The student body of ERHS should do a "dress out" and have upper classmen wear the freshman blue on Friday and everyone wear school spirit shirts Monday thru Thursday. And while I'm on the subject, I think it's also ridiculous that the students can't wear shorts. Rant over,

My main concern here is the Freshman, not particularly how uncomfortable I will be. Though that will be an issue, it's not the one I find worth addressing.
The Freshman of ERHS are already segregated into one hallway that nobody who isn't a Freshman can cross through (unless they have a skinny there, of course). Now they will be sticking out like sore thumbs. They don't only have classes with other Freshman, and so this could prove problematic. Not everyone will see it as a sign of "Hey, if this person is in trouble, and they're wearing navy, it means they're a Freshman, and we should back them up." Instead, they'll see them as targets, and this could be dangerous.
On the other hand, the whole dresscode ideal got implemented in Hamilton County with the thought of bullying in mind. The way I see it is we still get bullied based on brands, how it fits, how we look in it, and rather we wore it the day before or not (because, lets face it, some people care about that). We're still going to get bullied no matter how much you restrict this. It will be narrowed down to the very way we breathe if it comes down to it. My point here is, if you're going to do something in accordance with bullying and distraction, we should do something along the lines of teaching people that judging on that kind of thing is wrong, not stripping it away so it isn't an option anymore.
I don't normally put my opinion out there in this way, and I don't mean to say this with any sort of malice or disrespect, but I'm thoroughly concerned for our incoming students. I'll help them, of course. But, like I said, not everyone will.
