There doesn't seem any real need to change the name of a school with such proud and long heritage, especially when so many people look back fondly on their time there

I'm not sure if Mr. Hickey's arm was twisted ito this, but if he did this out of choice it was an awful decision which was made for the sake of him being at the turning point of the school to make him seem like a notable revolutionary headmaster who changed the course of Adams'. There was no need to do this. The new name omits the fact that Adams' is a grammar school, as if to hide scrutiny, when we should be proud of that fact that we are a grammar school and we should be exemplary for why grammar schools are good for the country, instead of trying to hide it. One argument for having 'Haberdashers' in the name is that the brand image is good for applications to university and jobs, but surely university's and employers wouldn't care about the schools you went to or the companies that ran them, but your actual credentials and ability. Why would they care about the school you came from unless you came from a disadvantaged schools and couldn't reach your full potential? Adams is certainly not a disadvantaged school. Overall, the change is unnecessary and has angered many in the school who were uninformed and has made many lose respect for the current headmaster. If this ultimately wasn't his decision he should have at least told us this was the case instead of falsely presenting a 'historic' idea of change in Adams' Grammar School .

Think again! Ruining the history of the school and it doesn’t sound right.

AGS is not a brand to be tinkered with; you do great damage to many generations of former pupils.

Change of status, change of entry requirements now change of name. When the applications go down will this reverse?

I'm disappointed there appears to have been no alumni/student consultation in this decision. An expensive rebranding cannot be justified when there are far more pressing concerns for the school.
