Rethink Shelter Locations

Utterly inhumane campaign. NIMBY nonsense. This isn't some random site selection. I hope every one of these shelters are built 8 free from your front doors. Dehumanizing houseless neighbours won't make your crappy neighbours any safer.

Neighborhoods should be part of the discussion. Its horrible that the city just does what they want, regardless of the impact to all involved.

Need to include the community. City can’t just pick anywhere they want it.

More research and daytime logistics need to be completed on this initiative to be fairvto all stakeholders.

Safety of children and seniors should be top priority

Homeless shelters should never be placed within 500 meters (straight line method) of (a) any school, child-care centre, children’s playground, and (b) seniors home, long-term care facility, or assisted living facility. Full Stop. Homeless shelters should be placed near rapid transit, with convenient access to medical and spiritual supports that help their residents to climb out of homelessness and back into mainstream society. Putting them in areas isolated from these supports does not help the shelter residents to progess.

An in person town hall is necessary. Please schedule.

The city must be clear and transparent in its actions, especially when they impact local communities. That’s the bottom line.

This shelter is close to schools, daycare and parks with no resources for the homeless to access so it should not be built here.

This 80 bed homeless shelter is located across from a child’s daycare!!!

The province has identified the safety risk to the community if having open drug use near schools and daycares. Whether it’s a safe injection site or under the title of harm reduction through the shelter system, the risk remains the same and the ban should cover both. The city had the ability to change zoning and ensure they we continue to support those in need while maintaining a safer city for our children

I fear for my young children. I am scared that they will be forced to engage with drug addicts near their school, parks and community pool.

There are businesses directly next to the proposed shelter. I personally know and have worked at one of them. These businesses, their staff, their customers, and the residents in New Toronto will be put at risk, as a result of this irresponsible decision. The City of Toronto needs to reconsider!

Please stop the building of a shelter on Third Street. New Toronto has it's fair share of community housing and services. There are other areas in the city that have none that can accomodate a shelter other than New Toronto.

The lot where the construction stopped almost 2 years ago (vandik/grandcentralmimico.com), next to mimico station. This lot is at least 1.5km away from closest schools/daycare/playground, but still accessible with major transportation, and close to groceries/shops if needed
