The board officially reversed their policy changes and restored our club traditions. We held our ground until they walked back the new rules. Keep a close eye on the next board meeting to ensure they stick to this commitment.

Started by CONCERNED MEMBERS OF SHADOW WOOD COUNTRY CLUB 4 years, 10 months ago

THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS OF THE SHADOW WOOD COUNTRY CLUB HAS TAKEN CERTAIN UNILATERAL ACTIONS WITHOUT FIRST SEEKING THE INPUT OF ITS MEMBERSHIP.

THESE ACTIONS UNDERMINE THE QUALITY OF THE COUNTRY CLUB LIFESTYLE EXPERIENCE FOR ITS MEMBERS AND WEAKEN THE CHARACTER OF OUR CLUB.

SOME SPECIFICS ARE IN ORDER

  • THIS BOARD RECENTLY MADE MAJOR POLICY CHANGES TO THE CLUB DRESS CODE WHICH IMPACTS THE QUALITY OF THE CLUB HOUSE EXPERIENCE FOR ITS MEMBERS. THESE CHANGES WERE MADE IN LIEU OF ENFORCING REPEATED VIOLATIONS OF THE EXISTING DRESS CODE AND DE-FACTO CHANGED THE CLUB'S ATMOSPHERE INTO A BEACH CLUB STYLE RESORT; SINCE WHEN HAVE WE TURNED INTO A CLUB WHERE RULE BREAKERS ARE REWARDED?
  • THIS BOARD CHANGED LONG STANDING TRADITIONS OF NEIGHBORHOOD EVENTS BY EFFECTIVELY BANNING PRIVATE NEIGHBORHOOD GOLF OUTINGS;

THESE GOLF EVENTS REPRESENT A CORE MEMBER LIFESTYLE VALUE BECAUSE THEY PROMOTE A SENSE OF COMMUNITY AMONG THE VARIOUS SHADOW WOOD NEIGHBORHOODS. FURTHER THE BOARD IS UNABLE TO SUPPORT ITS POSITION THAT THE MEMBERSHIP CHOSE TO LIMIT THESE EVENTS TO FREE UP WEEKEND TEE TIMES AND DINNING FACILITIES. THE PARTCIPANTS IN THESE EVENTS ARE MEMBERS USING THEIR CLUB'S FACILITIES, NOT OUTSIDERS.

  • THIS BOARD'S LIMITATION ON PRIVATE EVENTS HAS EFFECTIVELY BANNED OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD FUNCTIONS, UNRELATED TO GOLF, SUCH AS TRIVIA NIGHT WITHOUT ANY DISCUSSION WITH THE MEMBERSHIP;

THESE EVENTS HAVE SERVED AS MAJOR FUND-RAISING EVENTS FOR VARIOUS CHARITIES SUPPORTED BY THE MEMBERSHIP, SUCH AS "FEEDING THE FIVE THOUSAND" AND "HEARTS AND HOMES FOR VETERANS" AND FOSTERING THE CAMARADERIE WE ALL EXPECT AS CLUB MEMBERS.

  • THIS BOARD'S UNFETTERED ADMISSION POLICY FOR NEW MEMBERS WITHOUT FIRST SEEKING INPUT OF THE MEMBERSHIP IS A ROOT CAUSE OF THE CURRENT CLUB USAGE CHALLENGES.

NOW THEREFORE, WE, THE UNDERSIGNED MEMBERS OF THE SHADOW WOOD COUNTRY CLUB REQUEST THE BOARD RESCIND THE CHANGE IN THE DRESS CODE AND TO HOLD AN OPEN MEETING WITH ITS MEMBERS TO DISCUSS THESE AND OTHER IMPORTANT ISSUES.

Frankly I’m more disturbed by the double standard than the policy. Some people receive terse notices if a shirt is untucked (regardless if it’s designed to be), while others, including club officers can follow their own set of rules.

I think the club should return to a stronger dress code. My experience in a previous club was that once jeans were approved all standards deteriorated progressively. History is repeating itself.

I am very concerned with the logic that the dress code was changed due to so many violations. What incentive is there to adhere to the new dress code, if enough people violate it, it too will be changed. That logic certainly is not in place with the SW Association relative to the speed limits.

I chose to join Shadow Wood because of it’s high quality and standards generally associated with a premium club. I don’t agree with the Boards logic in lowering the bar and diminishing that value to allow casual attire such as sandals for men, seriously? Please revisit these decisions and return to the previous dress code.

I do not want to see the dress code change. Also I think it is important to allow Shadow Wood communities to host golf events. These events bring our members together and increase enjoyment of our Shadow Wood experience.

We are newer members and do not want to be associated with the group that has been characterized as “newer members wanting a more casual dress policy”. We oppose the new dress code decision.

Neighborhood dinners and Golf outings should be almost a core requirement of the Clubs marketing and contributions to the development as a whole.

Neighborhood events are very important. They present the opportunity for non golf members to consider becoming golf members. Also social activities are why we joined.
