Due to a massive funding cut, the post secondary institutions will be forced to close the domestic ESL program this year. This program provides immigrants and new Canadians the basic skills training needed to enter the workforce or continue their education. This is a devastating cut for students and community members.

Students are upset and confused this radical change and the lack of information about what will happen for ESL in the future.

The provincial government is responsible to ensure the funding is restored. A cut like this without any explanation is unacceptable. ESL needs to stay in public institutions and students have a right to access basic skills training. Help us send this message to the Ministry of Advanced Education.

The Ministry has ignored our emails so far but we are escalating our pressure campaign today. Post this link to your Facebook page and text three friends to explain why these classes must remain open. We need to flood the offices of our representatives until they provide a public answer.

The message is hitting home and people are finally paying attention to these cuts. Send an email to your local representative right now to demand they restore this funding.

We say in Canada that we value what immigrants bring to our country; but do we value the training that is needed for them to feel a part of our country. We cannot have one with the other; and domestic ESL programs at B.C.'s post secondary institutions help us become a stronger province both culturally, socially, and economically.

Funding for ESL Programs in post secondary institutions should be restored! You have no idea how helpful these courses are for new immigrants like myself! I would be where I am today without the communication course for IEHP that I took at Kwantlen! I want other people to benefit from it too

Connecting immigrants with not only English Language development skills but also the post-secondary training environment is crucial to supporting their settlement. Excluding post-secondaries from the process is a massive oversight that will be felt in years to come. Restore this funding!

I was in the ESL program when my family immigrated to Canada from Taiwan. It is the reason why I am able to thrive in our society today. This program is vital to new immigrants as it will help them integrate into their new country.

Closing the domestic ESL program will have lots of ramifications on employment opportunities for domestic citizens and impede on integrating a diversity of people into creating healthy multicultural communities. ESL is a necessity for equal ip

Please restore funding for British Columbia's domestic students who need not just basic ESL but also the advanced vocabulary and skills training provided by BC's public institutions.

As an immigrant to Canada, I know that it is essential that full fluency in English is essential to becoming a contributing citizen to Canada. It is economically and socially beneficial to both the individual and to Canadian society.
