Increase Funding for Public Education
To: THE HONOURABLE THE LEGISLATIVE ASSEMBLY OF THE PROVINCE OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, IN LEGISLATURE ASSEMBLED:
WHEREAS the Surrey Board of Education now projects an unprecedented financial shortfall of up to $18 million for the 2010-2011 school year,
WHEREAS despite a growing student population, Surrey is not receiving sufficient funding to maintain existing programs,
WHEREAS without full funding to cover all education costs, the Surrey Board of Education will be forced to close neighbourhood schools, reduce teaching time and slash critical programs like libraries, fine arts, sports, special education etc.,
THE UNDERSIGNED, CITIZENS AND PEOPLES OF BRITISH COLUMIBA HEREBY PETITION THIS HONORABLE HOUSE TO:
1. INCREASE Surrey funding to cover the full cost of student education, thereby eliminating the 18 million dollar financial shortfall,
2. CEASE imposing and downloading costs on Boards of Education,
3. AND commit to fully funding a quality public education system.

fix the budget. put the money where it belongs.
Ridiculous that they keep downloading these costs onto surrey when we have so many students moving in all the time.
INCREASE THE FUNDING NOW. The province is failing our kids.
These kids deserve better than portables and lack of supplies. Stop punishing our school district for growing.
My kids go to school in Surrey and the overcrowding is already bad enough. They cant keep cutting programs like this.
