The residents of Hernando Ms are fed up with the water department,s abuse of power. Unjustified cut offs, misappropriated payments, unexplained hikes in water bills and their refusal to explain the justification, friends of the mayor and city hall employees getting preferential treatment and worst of all, the very day after the Public Service Commission lifted the restriction on cut offs, they began the process of cutting off tax paying residents for non payment in the middle of a pandemic and economic crisis. No other utility company in the state is doing this because whether it is mandated or not, they are doing the right thing for their residents all over the state, except for Hernando.

The stories shared by residents regarding their recent billing experiences continue to highlight a recurring pattern of disregard. I am currently compiling these testimonies to present a clear case to the oversight board regarding this misuse of authority.

They don’t check the meter either each month, at least mine they do not. My meter is covered in dirt , cannot see the meter at all. How is the water department checking meter when you cannot see it or the gallons used per month. But my water bill is ridiculous high and spikes different month. Cannot get any answers. I have pictures for proof.

My bill has been ridiculously high for a long time. I've questioned but they explain it away. This month I have a "past due" amount. I've never not paid my bill or paid a partial bill. A water bill for a family of 3 should not be $140.

After my husband spent years working for a water department in a larger city, I KNOW this is not how a water department should operate. Unexplained spikes in bills with no leaks and a refusal from the water department to offer an explanation- UNACCEPTABLE.

I’m the last two years my water bill has been up and down. At one point it was 200$ and they told me it’s normal. Turns out the neighbors and a leak and magically after the city fixed their issue. My bill went back down explain that please and where is my 6 months of 5 times the bill?

We paid a $570 water bill in March/April (that nobody could explain; we have no leak), but we are still being told we’re past due. We can’t get anybody to call us back and resolve this. We have our bills and bank proof that we’ve paid each bill in full and on time (yes, even the $570 bill), minus the unexplained and incorrect past-due amount. They got almost $600 from us at the start of a pandemic, yet they do not have the decency to look into our account and see that we are current on our bills and have remained that way. The City of Hernando water department is entirely incompetent and I have lost all faith in them. I take pictures of my water meter regularly and keep track of dates and numbers. They will never do this to us again if I can help.

Based on my past problems with the water department, I feel that we the consumers are at their mercy. Anything they say goes.... any complaint:problems fall on deaf ears. Yet there they are on pay day!
