A Developer wants to clear-cut the mountain to build a solar plant
Did you know?
The proposed Project Area consists of approximately 89.4 acres of land including the facility, 75,000 solar PV panels and eight (8) inverters solar panels, electric interconnection route and access road.
The project will require the clear cutting of approximately 70 acres of core forest. It will also utilize 14+ acres of farmland.
Candlewood
Solar negotiated with the Mayor and Town Council for a tax abatement, without which, they could not afford to do this project. Plus the town has given up any right to Audits, Inspection of Records or Request for Declarations. In other words, for the next 20 years New Milford taxpayers will be subsidizing this utility so they can realize profits for their investors.

4. Talk to your friends, family and neighbors. Get them involved!

My family lives two miles from this site, and although I support solar energy, cutting down the forests defeats the purpose of clean energy. There are plenty of bare areas and deserts waiting to be used for solar farms!
As a resident of New Milford, I am entirely opposed to this project. This will do far too much damage to the natural environment of our town. Candlewood Mountain should not be clear-cut. Our community is far too populated to absorb a deforestation project of this scale. Please do not do this here!!
The New Milford Farmland Preservation Committee issued a list of conditions that should be implemented if this project moves forward. Not a single one is included in the current proposal and unmitigated damage to important farmland will occur as a result. Simply unacceptable.
Our environment is rapidly being destroyed on a daily basis - why, why, why cut down acres and acres of trees - this earth does not belong to us, it is a gift that is being loaned to us and we must respect - solar power is a wonderful thing but don't destroy in order to build!!
Some of the trees are 90 and 100 years old. The habitat of our wild life, the turkeys, owls, hawks, bobcat, coyotes, deer, and wolves should also be protected. It is beautiful forest land.
I had the good fortune to live on the mountain back in the late 1970s. Cannot believe that anyone would consider clear cutting such a beautiful place. Good luck, I hope you prevail.
Solar development is profitable and benefits ONLY the original developers.It renders the ground useless, kills animals and costs more for electricity that never goes to the folks harmed by the clearcutting.
