This was my email this evening to the Egyptian officials regarding the recent dog breed ban that went into enforcement this past week after a pit bull attack. I'm asking everyone to please share this and I am now working on starting a petition for people to sign and we need to rally the dog community. If we don't, so many dogs are going to be euthanized and a whole indigenous land race of dogs that's very much a part of Egyptian history will be decimated and gone forever

Request to reconsider the dog breed ban that went into effect

We are approaching you as dog lovers all around the world to request a reconsideration of the recent Dog Breed ban that went into enforcement recently with the passage of the dangerous dog law last year and in light of a recent dog attack that involved a pit bull. We understand the need for safety and laws and the need to control the population and to keep disease down. We as a world wide community can rally support to assist in these areas if your government is willing to give us a try. There are plenty of world wide organizations that I'm sure would be willing to help. Immediate vaccinations could be done and sterilization. Rescue organizations can be formed along with the already existing rescue organizations to plan containment of the dogs and management of the baladi street dogs. Preservation societies can be set up and I'm pretty sure there are already some in existence. I am on social media alot and I recently seen where a day was literally set aside to honor the baladi dogs in your country. Your country is rich in history and the baladi dogs are a part of that history. You are literally getting ready to erase a whole part of your country's history. Please do not let this happen. When I think of the baladi dogs I instantly think about the recent story of the baladi dog that climbed the pyramids. That's how most people are here in the west. They think of the pyramids and the baladi dogs. Its a beautiful part of your history that can be retained and managed. We understand the need to control the population and to cut down on the potential threat of having dangerous dogs roaming and I implore you to consider the alternative to euthanasia which is vaccinations and sterilization of the packs and then maintaining the packs until they die off on their own. Also do you want to be remembered as the government that alienated a part of your own people by taking away their beloved pets. I understand your country is Muslim and you have your religious beliefs about dogs that they are only to be kept if they are working dogs, doing a duty. I request that you consider that every single family dog that is now in danger of being ripped away from it's owners and family be considered a working dog in the capacity of emotional support animals. Our companion dogs offer alot of the owners the emotional support and this fulfilling a job with in itself. Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) preached kindness to all living beings:

Whoever is merciful even to s sparrow, Allah will be merciful to him on his day of judgement. A good deed done to an animal is like a good deed done to a human while an act of cruelty done to an animal is like an act of cruelty to a human being.

Respectfully,
