The City Council confirmed today that the noise ordinance will be strictly enforced for all landscaping equipment in Old Naples. We have secured a commitment for compliance checks to begin shortly. Keep an eye on your street to ensure these new standards remain in effect.

REQUEST LEAF BLOWERS USED IN THE OLD NAPLES NEIGHBORHOOD COMPLY WITH THE CITY NOISE ORDINANCE

The Naples City Ordinances currently prohibit any noise which exceeds the maximum permitted sound levels allowed in Table 1 of Section 22-37 of the Code or unreasonably disturbs, injures or endangers the comfort, repose, health, peace, tranquility or safety of reasonable persons of ordinary sensibilities. Most leaf blowers currently used in the neighborhood exceed the noise level permitted under the Code. Quieter leaf blowers are now available that are as efficient and cost competitive According to manufacturers they are up to 70% quieter than comparable models and would comply with the permitted sound levels allowed by the Code (65 dBA as measured at 50 feet ).
We the undersigned request Council to direct that effective January 1, 2020, the above mentioned Code be enforced and landscapers operating in the Old Naples Neighborhood be required to use blowers that have been stamped by the manufacturers showing the noise level is 65 dBA or less.

I met with the city code enforcement office this morning to review the decibel thresholds specified in section 22-37. We are currently drafting a formal letter for the City Council to request a pilot program for stricter equipment compliance in Old Naples. I will share the official response once we hear back regarding their next hearing schedule.

This may sound naïve, but I must say it!! Leaves are never collected and removed, just blown from place to place. The whole system is ridiculous. Way too much noise, for nothing! A clean area for a day. Then the leaves have blown right back.
I strongly endorse the attached petition to enforce the existing code and to bring into compliance all users of leaf blowers. Also consider the use of battery powered vs gas powered
The noise is enough to convince us not to retire permanently here. It is daily. There's no reason why these landscapers couldn't use more up to date equipment. We cannot sit out on our lanai when they are working, five or more days a week.
Code enforcement is all I ask. We have leaf blower noise in our neighborhood 4 out of 6 days a week. All different companies.
If we have rules, they should be enforced. I'm a big fan of landscape maintenance and I'm sure we can have both quieter blowers and a beautiful community. Let's get those new leaf blowers out there!

Noise restrictions are used in gated communities. Old Naples should have standards that are at least equal if not better - it's part of the reason we choose to live here.
