UPDATE: Barratt have now placed 3 grit bins around the community & vowed that as long as they are on site, they will be topped up in adverse weather conditions!
The residents on the Bridleways estate, respectfully request the immediate provision of grit bins for our community.
As the roads on our estate remain unadopted by the council, we are unable to benefit from council-provided grit bins. This leaves us vulnerable during icy and snowy conditions, creating significant safety risks for residents, visitors, and essential services. These risks include:
1. Pedestrian Safety: Without grit bins, icy pavements and pathways become hazardous, increasing the likelihood of slips and falls, particularly for children, the elderly, and those with mobility issues.
2. Vehicle Safety: Icy roads on the estate pose a danger to drivers, making it difficult to navigate safely. This risk extends to emergency vehicles and service providers who may struggle to access our homes during adverse weather.
3. Impact on Livelihoods: Some residents have reported being unable to safely leave the estate to travel to work during icy conditions. This compromises their livelihoods and adds unnecessary stress to families who are already facing challenges.
Neighboring estates, such as those developed by Keepmoat, have already provided grit bins for their residents, demonstrating a commitment to safety. The lack of grit bins on The Bridleways places us at a clear disadvantage and reflects poorly on the developer’s responsibility towards our wellbeing.
We believe it is the duty of Barratt Homes to ensure the safety and welfare of its residents, especially as the estate remains under your management. Installing grit bins at strategic locations across the estate is a simple, cost-effective solution to address these concerns.
By taking this action, Barratt Homes will demonstrate its commitment to community safety and responsible development.

As a person with a physical disability I have been particularly let down by Barratts in this instance, which has been a shock, given that they claim to be so highly regarded for customer satisfaction.
It is incredibly unsafe for vehicles and on foot. Especially as the roads underneath are not yet completed and normal surfaces remain uneven. It is also unsafe for your own workers.
My disabled child hasn’t left the house all this week. It’s not only impacting livelihoods, and getting food (I had to help dig a grocery van out) but children’s education and mental health too.
Please provide grit bins on the Bridleway site for the safety of the residents and visitors. By not providing safe access on the site that you are responsible for you may be in breach CDM regulations.
Please, please! I’m in my mid-60s and have had to walk the treacherous pathway to get to the bus stop as I’ve not been able to get the car out. Many cars have skidded on the road and have had near misses. What will it take for Barrett’s to do something?
Living on Fagley Lane has been a struggle with both the snow and ice. The amount of abandoned and cars which struggled to get up the lane has been ridiculous. I had one vehicle park outside my home in a van to help another resident stuck and his handbrake didn’t hold. The van then began rolling towards my driveway wall. There are no grit bins at the bottom of Fagley Lane, unlike Keepmoat residents who seem to have been provided with them by Keepmoat. We very frequently have emergency services racing down towards the bottom of Fagley Lane to access other homes. This would have been impossible over the last few days.
Brilliant stating point hopefully the developers will see sense and support.
