Many parents of Year 2 students were surprised and uncomfortable that BIS introduced sex- and gender-related content to their children without advance notification in the "Sex-Related Education - SRE" class beginning on 3 June 2021 online learning.
You may view examples of the content and video instruction here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1CehIWxn9Gp...
We request that BIS HCMC notify parents in advance of sexual and culturally-sensitive content being taught to our children. The email notification should include:
- Content and content examples
- Learning objective of content
- Guide for parents on how to speak with children about content, if children have questions
We know that BIS leadership is sensitive to the cultural variety of BIS' diverse student body. Transparency and advance communication of sensitive content are in the interest of all parties in our community.
Thank you!
I don’t have a problem with children being taught about these things however I do think this was a bit out of the blue and wasn’t prepared mentally so advance notice is definitely a must.
