Report Cards, Please.

My son is in first grade and this is the only real feedback I get for him.

Nice job WDSB - you've taught a valuable lesson to my daughters: Hard work doesn't pay. Working your tail off to get high marks doesn't mean anything. You will all be grouped together into pass/fail in life, so don't work any harder than the bare minimum in life. Do like *every* other school board has done - admit you are wrong and release our childrens' grades! Or are you now trying to prove Waterloo District has the thickest skulls in the province?

How can responsible adults use children and their parents as a pawn to negotiate with? Where is the hostage negotiator? Our children put in the work, we as parents have signed the agenda's and the tests, we have come in for interviews and listened to teachers, and done what we could, now hold up your end of your job.

Report Cards are an important item in our family. We read each and every one of them with our kids and discuss the improvements and celebrate the successes. My son did work for his marks, and he is incredibly in tune with what it means to have educational success. HE is the one being hurt in this situation. HE is a child and is extremely sad to not be able to share with his family the results of his hard work this year on the projects and tests of the last six months. He has a right to the information that is sitting in some file somewhere. It is DISGUSTING that the adults in this situation are so willing to HURT the kids over it. I wish there was a Class Action Lawsuit filed on behalf of the children.

The teachers have provided the marks but the Board does not want to enter them into the system. This is shameful. I can't believe the Board didn't plan for this to occur and didn't set aside budget dollars to make sure their admin staff were able to input the data even if it meant having to work into the Summer break. This would never happen in the private sector. Companies make contingency plans when faced with work to rule campaigns during union negotiations. Oftentimes, it means non-unionized employees are doing the extra work. So now our children have to suffer because of your poor planning. I find the decision made by the WRDSB disgraceful.

I would like to express my extreme disappointment in our school board for its decision to withhold final report cards. Our students want, need and deserve their grades and the pressure you are putting on principals to withhold that information is indefensible. Principals are not bound by any legal strike action and therefore have no excuse not to provide final grades. Our entire education system is completely broken, and your decision to be a part of this mess is unbelievable to me. I am asking you to please do what’s right. Release final report cards. Let our kids end the school year with a sense of pride and accomplishment. They have worked hard all year and deserve this closure.

I think it's ridiculous that the non union admin of Waterloo school board has failed to find a way to complete the minimal Data entry needed to make the report cards available to the students. Teachers have completed the cards... Find away to enter the data and distribute!

Teachers almost have the best benefit of the world, they got pension, how many of us get pension? How many of us can get more than 3% raise every year? How many of us get 3 month vacation a year? The regular people are struggled from pay cheque to pay cheque, but teachers still ask more, and we as tax-payer will foot the bill, and we don’t even get our kids’ report card, what kind of role model teachers set for our children?

Teachers need to do what they're are being paid for and teach our children instead of complaining of wanting more money and more time off when the already have almost 3 months of vacation time and great pay with one of the best pensions out there. How are we parents and our children going to know how our children progressed and what they need to improve on. They already don't communicate with parents enough and don't assign homework to increase our children knowledge.

Parents and kids both need report cards to show progress and for keepsakes.

I would be fine with a report card at a later date, but its my daughters last year of elementary school a report would be awesome.

Everyone involved passes the buck, the union, the teachers, the principals, the Board and the government. Meanwhile the Kids are held hostage. I am sick of it. Kids are entitled to an education under the law. Tell me what kind of education are they getting?

Given that little to no feedback or work has been returned home with both my children (grade 5 and 8) this year, a final mark is a must in my opinion. If marks are not provided for my children, then I will become a "helicopter" parent and be demanding frequent updates and status meeting next year just in case this happens again. Not sure the principal or the teachers will appreciate me moving forward.

Teachers have done the work to prepare the report cards, and marks were handed over to principals at the beginning of June. The Board had plenty of notice that teachers would not be entering marks into the computer system. Why couldn't the time that principals normally use to proof-read and approve comments have been used to input letter grades? Every board in Ontario (except Thames Valley and Waterloo Region) has committed to giving the marks to students and their parents, why not Waterloo Region? Our children deserve to get feedback on their second term work. The teachers have put the work into preparing the reports, why can't administration take the logical next step and release this information to parents? I don't think that administrators are in a legal strike position are they? Teachers cannot release the final marks that they have prepared until the marks have been approved by principals.

I would accept report card w/ marks and comments later before next term. But a brief letter, NO!

The kids worked hard this year and they should be rewarded by seeing their marks and that their hard work paid off!! I am disgusted that Waterloo is one of 2 boards in the province that are not giving out report cards!! You should be ashamed!!!!!

Report cards are not an optional item. The school board / teachers have a requirement to issue feedback to parents. I have one special need student on an Individual Education plan and we set goals with rewards for improvements which will never be able to be realized. The school has 10 weeks between June 26 and September to be able to create proper report cards and even a PD day at the end of the school year which they should be working. I do not have the option to complete some parts of my job requirements or I would be fired. Teachers and the board need to be held to some form of standard as at this time they are losing any sympathy from the general public. The majority of teachers at Keatsway are exceptional and the union / government is standing in their way. In my opinion summer holidays should not start for the teachers / unions / government until I have a report card in hand as I believe this is part of their job. This need sot be settled as there is also tow months to reach an agreement and if school is delayed in September as people are not doing their job there will be no sympathy from parents

Please make report cards not just for parents but for the students to know how well they did not send them in the next grade have blinded!!!!

Ideally for all students - if not, at least all the kids that have worked hard to graduate this year!

One only grows and improves with feedback. If parents don't have the feedback we can't support our children over the summer.
