Solent UCU will need to gather at least 100 signatures from members and staff at SSU, by way of a petition, before the members Report on Workplace Democracy at SSU can be placed on any university committee (constitutional requirement). In this instance, we propose the Board of Governors. As you may be aware from the Vice-Chancellor’s briefings, the university is currently in a very challenging situation and our members believe that the Solent UCU proposals for organisational reform and democratisation (see the outturn of the ORC 2016 Staff Survey) will prove to be absolutely vital in securing our short-term and our longer-term survival prospects as a vibrant autonomous institution.
