A Galway United fan, Joe Loughnane, was banned from Eamonn Deacy Park on Friday the 3rd of June for flying a Repeal the 8th banner. The banner was not actually present at the match in question. It was flown previously by a number of fans with no official warning coming from the club. The decision to ban is extreme, lacks any precedent, and the fan in question has been singled out.

We are calling on the board of Galway United and the Galway Football Association to reverse their decision. Banners and flags have been flown at Deacy Park for years with no problems.

Singling out a repeal the 8th banner in the midst of a myriad of other banners for a variety of political causes is shameful. Hope Galway FC cop on to themselves. Repeal the 8th.

If the board has a problem with any banner then there are ways of calmly addressing this, but this is appears to be personal, vindictive, and an unacceptable suppression of free speech . We demand a retraction of the ban & apology for action taken!

This decision shows that management or leadership are totally at odd with how younger people in the community feel and it's disrespectful to try to censor fans beliefs in this way, without even considering the negative message it could send out to women. For shame Galway United :(

This fan has done more to promote and draw crowds than any other person I'd wager. Many, many people were involved with the banner and to single him out after he recently called out a board member for blatant racism is very suspicious

I met Joe at the beginning of the year at a Galway United match and ever since we have had the best of craic at the games. He never once has caused any trouble or done anything out of line. It won't be the same without him. Re appeal the ban!

Doesn't look like they were blocking anyone's view so don't understand why the ban. Unless someones else's values and beliefs are more important, to you?
