Calaveras County required closure of businesses in March under a set of facts known and unknown at that time in order to prevent our healthcare infrastructure from becoming overwhelmed. Since implementing this unprecedented stay-at-home order, a tremendous amount of new information has come to light regarding the lethality of the novel corona virus (COVID-19) and its widespread contraction to date. This new information indicates that mandated closure of our community's businesses is unnecessary to avoid overwhelming our healthcare system. Therefore, we petition our county Health Officer, Board of Supervisors and Sheriff to allow all businesses in Calaveras to reopen immediately under a recommended social distancing policy with voluntary compliance. This could be achieved by replacing the Calaveras County Health Officer Order dated March 27, 2020with an order recommending social distancing practices, and selective application of the Governor's Executive Order N-33-20 which is Constitutionally suspect.
