Demand Answers for Reoccurring Power Outages in Tri-Valley (Dublin/Livermore) – October 2024

Reoccurring Power Outages in the Tri-Valley Area
Residents and businesses in Dublin and Livermore have been experiencing multiple power outages throughout October 2024, severely disrupting daily life, business operations, and essential services. Despite the significant impact on the community, there has been no adequate explanation or long-term solution from PGE or local authorities.
Specific Outage Dates and Impacted Areas
The following outages have been documented in the Dublin/Livermore during October 2024, with the most severely impacted areas including those around Fallon Road and Livermore Municipal Airport:
- October 12, 2024: Outage began at 10:58 AM, with an estimated restoration time of 5:30 PM. Power was restored at 1:56 PM.
- October 17, 2024 (Morning): Outage began at 10:55 AM, with an estimated restoration time of 5:30 PM. Power was restored at 12:45 PM.
- October 17, 2024 (Afternoon): Outage began at 3:26 PM, with an estimated restoration time of 10:00 PM. Power was restored at 5:21 PM.
- October 23, 2024: Outage began at 5:34 PM, with an estimated restoration time of 12:15 AM. Power was restored at 7:00 PM.
According to KRON4 on October 17, 2024, nearly 7,000 PG&E customers in Dublin were affected by a power outage earlier that day, compounding the frustration from similar outages throughout the month. Areas severely affected by these outages include regions around Fallon Road and Livermore Municipal Airport, where customer impact reached 5000+ in some cases.
Recent Response from PG&E
On October 18, 2024, the Pleasanton Weekly reported PG&E’s response to public frustration, where the utility company cited “high winds, equipment issues, and wildfire risk mitigation” as the reasons for the outages. However, PG&E’s explanation lacked a concrete timeline or specific solutions to prevent future disruptions, leaving the community with continued uncertainty.
However these were not the cause for the recent issues experience in Dublin/Livermore in the recent days.
Need for Transparency and Action
The community demands accountability from PG&E and local officials. Immediate actions are required to prevent further disruptions and restore confidence in the area’s power infrastructure. We call for:
- A clear and transparent explanation for the causes behind these outages, especially in light of their frequency, impacts to the community and businesses.
- A detailed action plan to address the root causes and ensure reliable power.
- Improved communication with residents and businesses regarding outages, restoration timelines, and preventive measures. Recommending an in person meeting with the community as early as 10/26/24
- Compensation for those impacted by the repeated outages, particularly businesses and residents who rely on consistent power for essential services.
Next Steps for the Community
In addition to signing this petition, community members should take immediate action by emailing their concerns directly to:
- PG&E Bay Area Region: BayAreaRegion@pge.com
- Jake Zigelman, Regional Vice President of the Bay Area Region at PG&E
- Aaron Johnson, Senior Vice President of Local Customer Engagement at PG&E
- Dublin City Council: council@dublin.ca.gov
- Mayor John Marchand of Livermore: mayormarchand@livermoreca.gov
By raising awareness and applying collective pressure, we can ensure that the voices of the Tri-Valley community are heard and that steps are taken to improve power reliability in the region.
