RENOVATE N.H. Scott Park Pool formerly Mark Trail Park Pool

N.H. Scott Park formerly Mark Trail Park swimming pool has been closed for more than 15 years. The pool is located, 2230 Tilson Road, Decatur, Georgia, South DeKalb County in Commission District 3 and 6. The pool closed because it needed major repairs. At the time of closing, it was one of the largest swimming pools in DeKalb County. Instead of maintaining the swimming pool, DeKalb County neglected needed maintenance and repairs. The pool became abandoned. For the past fifteen years, the community has been given false promises about the renovation of a state-of-the-art pool with a splash pad and bath house. Instead, the community has had to be faced with a rusty graffiti abandoned pool for over a decade and many false promises.

  • In 2018, DeKalb County proposed to amend the 2014-2018 Consolidated Plan & 2018 Annual Action Plan to include N.H. Scott Park Pool and Bath House Design Project.
  • In 2018, DeKalb County approved $2.5 million using SPLOST Funds for the pool renovations.
  • March 10, 2020, the Board of Commissioners approved the Master Plan.
  • The pool was projected to be completed by Summer 2021.

As of February 1, 2023, the pool is still abandoned with no construction being done. If you agree this is unacceptable because now, the taxpayers will be forced to endure higher cost of this project the longer it is delayed, please sign this petition.

N.H. Scott is a park that has been neglected for years. The community sees the changes and improvements in parks all around the county without long delays. Everything that is needed at Scott is reviewed, reviewed, reviewed, then nothing happens. It is clear to me the county has no plans to replace the pool. Money, contractors, contract, commissioners’ approval are excuses, we have heard it all. The county built an amphitheater, and it didn’t take years. I understand this is county property and to invest in the upkeep and improvements is their decision. As taxpayers, we see tax money spent in parks other than N.H. Scott. It appears there is a waiting game being played, hoping the community will give up. What would Mr. N.H. Scott do?

My family moved into the neighborhood across from N.H. Scott Park in 2007. It is now 2023. The pool and bathhouse have sat in disrepair and abject neglect for my kids' entire childhood: 16 years. The graffiti, overgrown trees and weeds, trash, standing water, and mold have got to go! The taxpayers of southwest Dekalb deserve better than this. Please make good on your promises, Commissioner Johnson!

This is long overdue. Home values are soaring here in the area by the park so it is time to stop ignoring this area as we pay taxes also!

I think our kids need the Park and Recreation Center fixed up in the Community to help with our Babies to have something resourceful to keep their brains on Great Activity ✍️
