The recent tragedy in Aurora CO where a doctoral student fired an assault weapon into the crowd at a midnight showing of the new Batman film killing 12 and wounding 58 (would have killed more if his magazine hadn't locked up) is proof that Congress must renew the ban on assault weapons. The shooter purchased his weapons easily, some through local gun stores, the rest on the web where all he needed was a credit card. Without one background check he amassed an arsenal of assault weapons and 6,000 rounds of ammunition. This would not have happened had the Federal Assault Weapons Ban been reinstated. In 1994 Bill Clinton signed into law the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) , expired March 2, 2004 and the bill to renew the AWB has yet to reach the floor. Please join me in this petition; with enough signatures we can lobby Congress to renew the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. Thank you for your support.

please protect the lives of the people. I am not for taking guns away from law abiding citizens but out of the hands of evil and to keep people safe

Way too easy to get this gear. No one needs that much ammo just sitting in their house.

Nobody needs a military weapon to go deer hunting. Keep these things off the streets so we stop seeing this stuff on the news every week.

This is just common sense. My kids are terrified to go to the movies now and that is not right.

I own guns and I support the second amendment but these high capacity magazines have no place in civilian hands. It is time to update the laws.
