This is a petition to remove the stop sign at the intersection of Hwy 628 and Cardinal Dr. in La Place, La. There are only 2 ways to get into La Place (excluding I-10) from the Norco, Destrehan, West Bank and St. Rose area, Hwy 61 (Airline) and Hwy 628 (River Road). There are thousands of people coming into La Place every afternoon from numerous large companies including Motiva, Valero, Monsanto and Bayou Steel to name a few. Since putting the stop sign at that intersection, traffic is backed up almost a mile every day, some days it\'s backed up all the way to Bayou Steel. There has been a noticeable back up on Hwy 61 as well. People that used to take Hwy 628 are now going to Hwy 61. This is a major inconvenience for the thousands of people that travel into La Place every day. There has never been a stop sign there, and the only time it is a real inconvenience to cross the intersection is around 5:00 p.m. weekdays. Therefore, we do not understand the need for the stop sign at this intersection. The stop sign was obviously put there because a handful of neighborhood people were complaining about crossing the highway around 5:00. So now to please a few, you have put the burden on many.
