Dear Mexico Beach Council Members,

As property owners of Mexico Beach, between North 36th and 44th streets, we respectfully request the closure of the temporary road that connects our neighborhood to the boat ramp area. We understand the road was immensely valuable during Hurricane Michael clean-up and may need to be used for similar purposes in the future so details on how it will be closed will need to take this into consideration. However, it was never intended to be a permanent roadway so now that the majority of the hurricane cleanup is complete in that area, we ask that it be closed as soon as reasonably feasible.

Respectfully,

Mexico Beach neighbors

Updates

June 24, 2019

I have requested a formal meeting with the city council office to review the original zoning agreements for the access road. We are currently drafting a legal inquiry to determine the specific criteria required to decommission the route.

June 24, 2019

The volume of support has now reached a point where we have officially requested a formal hearing with the Mexico Beach Council. I am currently preparing the documentation to present our case for the road closure during their next session.

This was agreed upon by the mayor and commissioners upon the bridge being completed. It was discussed by different City officials for over a year, with everyone again agreeing that it would be closed upon bridge competition. It’s in the best interest of all of our community here on the canal. Close the temporary road like you agreed. Email me and I am glad to share with you what our neighbors and I have already experienced, due to this temporary road staying open. It’s not good for our community!

Please close this temporary detour St. Our neighborhood had 22 homes now 7 remain, like to see it rebuild as a high-end/deadend neighborhood.

It makes no sense to route trucks and boat trailers thru a residential neighborhood when there is a more direct route through the woods

As a low density, residential area, 36th street N, has an extremely high traffic level.

This road is of no use for our city. We were promised in the beginning it would be a temporary detour of 36st. We would like our neighborhood to remain a deadend st

We do not want to keep this road open. It will create to much traffic in this neighborhood.

makes no sense to rout trucks and boat trailers thru a neighborhood when a rout thru the oprn land is available.
