The December 2013 issue of Cosmopolitan featured an offensive advertisement by European Wax Center on page 121. This advertisement promotes the sexualization and objectification of women and girls. The focus of the advertisement is on her genital area thereby implying that the most important part of a woman’s body is her vagina. By only focusing on certain body parts this advertisement has effectively dehumanized her and erased her identity. The open legs suggest the sexual availability of women. The sharp heel digging into her thigh conjures images of pain. The overall impression of this ad is borderline pornographic and insinuates a connection between sex and pain. This advertisement also reflects the cultural obsession with thinness. Most women cannot obtain this level of thinness, and exposure to these images can lead to lowered self-esteem and body dissatisfaction.
This petition will be mailed to the editor of Cosmopolitan by December 10, 2013. If you support our efforts to remove this ad from future issues of Cosmopolitan, please add your signature below.

Seeing this grow is exhausting but necessary given how deeply this imagery hurts us. I am tired of fighting companies that profit from our objectification yet your support proves we are not alone in this demand.

Seriously gross. How did this even get past the editors in the first place? Do better.
Women are beautiful creature,delicate but at the same time strong creation of God but definitely not a show piece. Women represent mother earth, mother nature who give us love, shelter and protection and should be respected and presented in a dignified manner.
I wonder if the trends that women are exposed to in the west are any less painful than that they are going through in the east?
why do they think this is okay to print??? my daughter sees this stuff at the grocery store check out
UGH SO OVER THIS TRASH. stop objectifying us for once.
