Dear Marguerite Campbell & Shelley Laskin,
It has come to the attention of the Ledbury Park E & MS parent community that for the 2019-2020 school year Mr. Daniel Goldlist is scheduled to teach JK/SK.
Mr. Goldlist is an incompetent teacher and one that we do not feel safe or comfortable having in charge of a room full of 3, 4 and 5 year olds. Over the course of the past 2 years he has twice been placed on leave because of physical altercations between him and young children (one in grade 1 and one in kindergarten). He has also been present, yet unaware, when children are engaged in both bullying and unsafe behaviour.
3, 4 and 5 year olds are unable to advocate for themselves. They often forget the details of their day and either do not or cannot adequately convey their experiences to the caring adults in their lives. This translates to a man who is untrustworthy in a classroom, being left in charge of the physical safety and education of young children in an environment with no oversight and no one who can accurately describe the happenings of the day.
Mr. Goldlist has been moved around the school because of his inability to teach lessons, control a classroom or assist children with navigating their social worlds. He does not use the classroom technology (i.e. iPads and Chromebooks) for educational endeavors or to maximize technical understanding but to attempt to bribe children into behaving appropriately. Our children should not be spending their Kindergarten years staring at a screen.
On repeated occasions he has been reprimanded for inappropriate use of the Google classrooms that he, as the librarian, was given access to. He has no sense of boundaries or appropriate behavior; yet another reason why he cannot be left in charge of the youngest children in the school.
In an ideal world he would be placed into another school but at the very least he needs to be kept out of a Ledbury Park classroom, and in particular a kindergarten classroom.
Sincerely,
Ledbury Park E & MS parents

I have been spending my nights reviewing the stories coming from other parents who have dealt with these same fears. We are currently compiling a full report to present to the board because our children deserve a safe classroom environment.

Seeing this grow so quickly reminds me that I am not the only parent who keeps picturing their child in that classroom and feeling a knot in their stomach. Your support confirms that we are right to demand a safer environment for our youngest students who cannot speak up for themselves.

I walked into Mr. Goldlist's library class when he was telling the children to imagine that they were in the process of being kidnapped and were in the trunk of a car. Another time through my children I heard of another one of his inappropriate stories involving firemen who would have to pull down their pants and pee on fire and monsters to make them go away. My child brought home a disturbing Stephen King novel from his library class which he helped sign out. And that's just the tip of the iceberg. He is completely unfit, and the board of education is waiting to react to a horrible atrocity instead of doing the right thing. If they're unwilling to fire him, they need to move him to an admin position out of a school, and far from children.
How many times does a teacher need to be removed from classrooms before we start to take the issue seriously? Being put on leave once should raise numerous flags, twice in one year proves that Mr. Goldlist simply can't be trusted around children of any age never mind 3, 4 and 5 year olds. School is supposed to be one of the safest places a child can be but this can happen when an adult in an authoritative position consistently abuses thier role and constantly has to be reprimanded. No child should have to feel unsafe around a teacher...ever.
Our children need teachers who are thoughtful, consistent and patient with them. Our teachers need to exemplify the behaviours we want our children to model. This teacher cannot do any of these things. The amount of complaints from students, staff and parents is staggering, especially given the size of the school. Mr. Goldlist should not be teaching a kindergarten class.
I could not agree more with this!! Mr Goldlist taught my daughter in grade 2 and it was by far the WORST year both her and I have ever had with a teacher. If ANYONE should not be moulding young minds or even spending time with children of ANY age, it’s HIM. I feel absolutely horrible for any parent and/or child who has to deal with him!!
Mr. Goldlist was my son's SK teacher several years ago. He was there one week, and gone the next, with several mental health issues which were apparent in the classroom. This affected my son's learning, leaving him very far behind in grade 1. He was inappropriate, and incompetent. They played violent video games all day, so of course the kids were happy. I will never allow Mr. Goldlist to teach any of my children again.

I am a former student of his. I recall feeling upset, exasperated or bored in his lessons. He never taught me anything, accommodated to my IEP or let me feel safe. I often felt slightly scared because of certain comments he made, not apropreate comments. and oh yeah, I was in 6th grade.
