Who ever is running this petition is hindering my freedom of speech rights. I posted a comment on here a few days ago that expressed my doubts and just all around being rational about the situation and it was removed. Funny how a person who is concerned about freedom of speech takes other peoples comments down because it isn't what they believe in.

Really Longwood University? After so many positive experiences as a parent of a student at your campus this the first time I am left shaking my head. College should be a place where a student finds his or her voice and you are denying them a perfectly harmless canvas.

I support this and I sign this petition under the circumstances of getting drawings and expressions approved by the Student Union. This will give Art Students an opportunity to express there master skills of drawing. As well as, another form of Advertisement. Posters and social media are great ways to advertise, but even arrows on the sidewalk indicating where an event is, or a few words on the ground where most of us look at anyway when walking to class is a great way to raise numbers for students to attend events and engage in the University. I have seen chalk writing on other campuses such as George Mason University and University of Virginia. I think reaching out to these Universities and seeing what their perspective is to strengthen your Petition and educate students that are against this Petition would be a great idea as well!

I am not signing this petition unless you have more of a statement that this violates our free speech and such (which I totally see where you are coming from with that). But we give daily tours to prospective students and parents, if we do not know who is writing chalk on the grounds people can write inappropriate things on the ground. Which will end up staying on the ground until it rains. Now maybe if you had to have a drawing approved by the student union first (like posters have to be approved before being put on the walls), then maybe I could get behind supporting this cause. But I don't want random things just being drawn on the ground. They're other ways to publicize events for clubs and protest peacefully (like just protesting).

It is important that atleast some part of longwood side walk (behind student union) is the best section for students to express their opinions, thoughts, creative ideas and beliefs/ values as a way to bring the longwood student body closer together as a whole and to give the campus more life as brought by the student body.

I do not see the problem with sidewalk chalk since it is already used on campus sidewalks. The benefit of using chalk is that water can be used to wash away chalk, especially in case it's inappropriate and negative. Once again, chalk should only be used on our sidewalks and NOT used to vandalize buildings.
