Since the opening of Sun Outdoors Chincoteague, in the location of the old Inlet View Campground, the waste water system omits a foul smell of human waste. This is particularly worse at peak bathroom usage times (i.e. 5-8pm). There are days when the smells permeate homes, making it unbearable to even want to live in or visit our properties. The parent company has other properties on and off the island and these smells aren't present at those sites, so why is it at this one?
The smells were never an issue when it was Inlet View and were non-existent before Sun Outdoors opened this spring 2023.
We are demanding that they need use better filters, repair the new septic systems, and/or facilitate more often pump outs... Whatever is needed for the residents of Southern Chincoteague to enjoy their yards, use clothes lines, not devalue their properties, and more.
The smells are reported in Bay View Lane Estates, Bunker Hill, Sea Breeze and all adjacent streets.
