It's more than just a religious symbol. It's a reminder of all the men who had died there. It's a sign that you're almost home to Leadville on dark, snowy nights.

Ken Pettus-Las Vegas, previous employee during the start up. This Cross has shown since 1959 when I lived in Climax. Since when do the actions of a few dictate the desires and wishes of the many??? Put it up!!

Relight the cross! It is apart of our community, and a long time symbol that the minerst would make it out of the pit safe.

Let's stop letting people change our traditions. If they don't like it they can close their eyes as they drive by. Merry Christmas to all of our Climax families.

I worked at Climax for 15 years form 1970 to 1985 when they shut down and I hoisted a lot of materials through that very door a Christmas without. The cross would be a broken tradition. What. A shame so few can ruin it for So Many

Here's the thing: the mine is a business, NOT a government agency. There is no separation of church and state. This cross is a VERY long tradition, and it's one of the only things remaining to residents and employees who were and are more a family than a mere collection of employees. If there are people of other beliefs, add their greetings to the display. Just leave this cross there. It's not hurting anyone and it makes a few older people with great memories happy. Stop being the Grinch.
