I laughed when I read about this, wondering why this was newsworthy. But then I realized how wrong it was being handled.

Your authority is so weak that you are invoking criminal charges, withholding diplomas, and generally trying to ruin lives for throwing water balloons? Simply... WOW.
My unasked for suggestion is that you revisit this. Giving these almost-adults a week's worth of detention which is spent on cafeteria clean up and mopping duty accompanied by a stern lecture about how people have died from slipping on wet floors would be a far more effective lesson than your current heavy handed response.
Most kids do not have problems with authority, only with FALSE authority. Your vastly overdone response not only reeks of false authority on your part, but it also makes me question that of the decision makers stupid enough to place you in charge of teens under the title of Assistant Superintendent. It almost makes me wonder if there is... an Agenda at work here.
Again, please revisit this. Please show the world that you are ultimately the properly-stern, yet level-headed authority figure who simply got caught at a bad time, yet ultimately knows how to make things right.
Thank you.

Sounds like this school needs more Student friendly leadership who have common sense when it comes to dealing with students.

This is the dumbest thing I've ever heard of. You mean to tell me you have never had a senior skip/prank day? You've never done anything wrong? These kids did nothing wrong, a simple water balloon prank is going to cost them their diplomas? For what? Come on people. Get it together. It definitely makes a parent feel like their child isn't allowed to be a child in school which is where their "memories" are made. Drop the charges.

This was handled badly. Don't try to make an example of them. Regular punishment makes an example

Come on guys.. It was water balloons. Make the kids spend a couple of days helping out the janitorial staff cleaning toilets. This is a total waste of judicial resources.

I understand the administration's need for keeping order and giving the student's reprimadation in order to do so, however I believe they went too far; make these boys clean up after grad or serve detention, don't give them a tarnished record right out of high school.

I feel as this is unfair way of handling a very harmless senior prank that didn't cause anyone harm. This needs to be fixed!
Let the punishment for the crime.
Put the kids in detention
Criminal charges? How about detention/suspension?
