A "VIDEO BAR" called MATTY'S NYC is planning an opening for November/December at 135 Seventh Avenue South. They originally promised "WILD WEDNESDAYS" with 75 CENT DRINKS, and weekends featuring “WORLD RENOWNED DJs AND RECORDING ARTISTS." Now we're not really sure what they're promising.

If you thought Veranda was a nightmare--this could be worse!

The space (ground floor/cellar of the apartment building at 163 W. 10th) formerly housed Tanti Baci Cafe, a hair salon, and a barbershop. THERE IS NO PRECEDENT FOR A BAR HERE. There IS space--and precedent--for a sidewalk cafe, right alongside Sel & Gras, Galway Hooker, and Landbrot.

There are at least 30 premises with liquor licenses within a two-block radius of this address. WE CAN'T DEAL WITH ANOTHER ONE!

Our neighborhood has become a "night-life corridor," our sidewalks filled with drunken revelers every night of the week. Our narrow streets echo with blasting music and shouting well past midnight. Bar owners ignore the legal requirement to close windows and doors at a reasonable hour.

TO LEARN MORE about what Matty's NYC would bring to our neighborhood, see:

THEN:

SIGN this petition (add a comment if you wish) **@10/11/12 ~ please make mention of how close you live to this location.

EMAIL Community Board 2's SLA (i.e., liquor license) committee: [email protected]

ATTEND the hearing, and sign up to speak if possible--there's strength in numbers, and our voices must be heard.

THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 14, 6:30 PM Our Lady of Pompeii, 25 Carmine St., Father Demo Hall (at Bleecker Street)

IT TOOK YEARS TO GET VERANDA CLOSED. LET'S STOP MATTY'S BEFORE IT OPENS!

Updates

September 30, 2013

The feedback from neighbors remains clear because nobody wants another loud bar disrupting our streets. Email the community board today and tell them specifically how a nightclub at this location will impact your sleep.

September 30, 2013

We have reached a turning point that proves this neighborhood will not accept another late night bar. Send an email to the liquor license committee today and tell them our streets are already at capacity.

Enough is enough. My apartment shakes from the noise as it is and I live a block away. Reject this app.

This place sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Please do not let this happen to our home.

I live two doors down and it is already impossible to sleep. We dont need another loud bar on this block.

75 cent drinks? Are they kidding? This is a quiet residential street not a frat house. Keep them out.
