Because in South Africa violent criminals know they will not die for killing you, but you can die for being at home.
Life sentences don't deter, parole releases them, and taxpayers feed them while victims' families get no justice. The death penalty for undeniable cases of serial murder, child murder and brutal rape guarantees that monster will never kill, rape or hurt another South African woman or child again.
