They actually listened and the classes are officially back on the schedule which feels unreal honestly. I am so relieved we finally got this done because that extra credit hour is going to help so many of us cross the graduation stage. Keep an eye on the department website just …
I honestly never thought this would gain this much steam but here we are and it really feels like the university is finally paying attention to us now. It is wild to see everyone coming together for those credit hours and just for the love of the classes themselves because honestly I missed the training so much (my wrists are definitely feeling rusty) and it is just genuinely cool to see I am not the only one who cares about this.

Are you kidding me NIU!??!
This class is a must to remain! I was in the club for my entire college career and even came back to Dekalb to participate in activities.
This is a great "organic" way to keep Alumni active with a part of the University.

Enough of taking away the Martial arts program under Grandmaster Michael Augsburger. This program greatly enriches the students in Mind and Body. As well as a indepth knowledge of Korean Culture. You don't know what a valuable resource you have with Grandmaster Augsburger. What a waste NIU!!

In a community where multiple robbing notifications and assaults are notifified to students weekly it should be encouraged to take a class making you more comfortable in your skin. Self defense classes help you stay fit, your confidence and your ability to stand your own.

The martial arts class has build confidence in myself both physically and mentally. I enjoy learning martial arts. The classes have helped reduce my stress and martial arts has always been a dream of mine but growing up as a kid and even now I can't afford it and with the university canceling the classes I can no longer pursue martial arts

I learned about culture, cuisine, history, language all while learning how to protect myself and others and be a morally and socially responsible person. I can think of dozens of classes at NIU that don't do half of this to really prepare students to be decent human beings after graduation.

I trained with Master Augsbuger in the early 2000's and can attest to his proficiency in both the martial arts and as an educator. What he has to offer in terms of training is superior to 95% of what else is out there in the martial arts world.

I took Hapkido with Master Augsburger in my final year at NIU. It was an invaluable experience not just for physical fitness, but helping me deal with the stresses of school and my anxiety.
I have nothing but praise for Master Augsburger, and I am disappointed to see that the martial arts classes have apparently been canceled. It is deeply disappointing to me as an alumna to see such an important class for various individuals, especially young women, that was available so easily for these students to now be denied to them.
Please reconsider your stance. I ask for myself and for all the others who just desire to better themselves at NIU.
