Dear City Council (Orillia, Ontario, Canada),
It is with great respect and admiration for your fine city, that I propose for your consideration, the reinstatement of the "Home of Gordon Lightfoot" or "The Birthplace of Gordon Lightfoot" moniker, to be added to the Orillia welcome signs on roadways leading into the city, that you currently have in place.
The City of Orillia has honourably created bronze statues of Gordon, which are fabulous. The addition of the road signs would capture the attention of "all visitors" to the city.

Do it!!! Get Gordon back on the signs for Orillia! Why is this even a question? Most places would be shouting to the world that they were the birth place of Gordon Lightfoot.. A sign recognizing Gordon's birth town would certainly make me want to stop and spend some time there. Recognize the treasure that he is and put his name back on the sign........PLEASE!
If I were an Orillian, I'd want the world to know that they're entering hallowed ground--Gordon Lightfoot's hometown. His music is a world wide treasure--show your pride!
I WENT TO ODCVI WHEN GORD DID . GORD STEVEN AND MY COUSIN PAUL USED TO PERFORM WELL SING AND PLAY INSTRUMENTS ON STAGE AT THE ASSEMBLIES THEY WERE VERY GOOD..REMEMBERING ORILLIA DAYS
A sign from my childhood. Growing up in Orillia in the 1970's and '80's "The Home of Gordon Lighfoot" is something I don't think I'll ever forget.
If Uptergrove can have a sign which says "Summer home of Glen Gould" then Orillia can reinstate proudly that it is the home of Gordon Lightfoot! It's home-town PRIDE and whynot? My dad, my Aunt and my Mother-in-law all babysat him! ;)

I was just telling my kids how seeing this sign on the way to our cottage on Go Home Lake was a big deal when I was little. Sad that it's gone!
