I see political correctness has reared its ugly head once again. Politics as usual. Coach Fitzgerald paid the price for playing the best at there position instead of whose Parent "messages" the right people. These same people think there should be Participation Trophies handed out when their team wins two games during a season. It's a shame and a sham!

Coach Fitzgerald has been not only a the best coach I have played for but also a great mentor. Baseball mimics life in many ways. Coach Fitzgerald has been a positive influence to me as a leader and also a mentor. He is tough on his players in a positive way. I can't believe someone would take away a person of his character. He has made me a better ball player and has always known how to get the best out of me and our team. Our record this year indicates that. We were not that far off from taking it to even a higher level.

Our purpose is to use our time, talent, and treasure to serve others. Mike does this through coaching baseball. Some people may have an idea about the amount of time and money Mike puts into coaching. But only our family really knows the full extent of it. And it's our choice to do this. We do it for not one or two players but for ALL players. What is our reward? Seeing a player work hard to earn a starting position, to see a player develop and grow in a position (sometimes in a position other coaches wouldn't give them the opportunity to try), to have players playing baseball at college.

Coach Mike was the best coach my son has ever had. He was tough but always fair and always positive. He instilled confidence in my son that no other coach did. Coach Mike's love for baseball shows in everything he does. He used his own time to train my son during the winter months and asked for nothing in return. He had no investment in the training as we are in a different district other than to help my son become a stronger player. He is always available to my son as he looks for colleges. Coach Mike is a great coach and friend. Firing him is a great loss to Upper Perk.

I used to play for Coach Fitz when he was an assistant for the Post team and during the days I would work for him. I have spent countless hours talking about the game of baseball with him. You can tell the passion he has for the game and the players in just a few short minutes of conversation. Upper Perk needs more Coaches like Fitz. He is dedicated to the sport but more importantly, to the players. Fitz is a guy that knows the game, wants to teach it to players, and is willing to dedicate a lot of his time to the team. As someone who wants to coach for a long time, I think having those attributes should keep you around as a coach for years and years, not what gets you fired. Good coaches are hard to come by and Upper Perk seems to get rid of the good ones. Coach Fitz is helping to turn this program around and from my time with him, he is a guy that could stabilize this program for years to come.
