We, as citizens of Rockingham County, VA, call for clear and strict regulations on the use of police body-worn cameras to ensure transparency, accountability, and the protection of citizens' privacy rights. While body cameras have the potential to improve law enforcement practices, without proper guidelines, they risk misuse, invasion of privacy, and the lack of public trust.

We demand that the regulations include:

1. Clear policies on when and how body cameras must be activated and deactivated.

2. Strict controls on who can access the footage and how long it is stored

3. Transparent procedures for public access to recordings in cases involving misconduct other than public interest.

4. Safeguards to protect to the privacy of civilians captured in footage, especially in sensitive situations.

5. Regular audits and oversight to ensure compliance with these rules.

By signing thus petition, we urge lawmakers and police departments to implement these measures to ba\lance saftey, accountability, and privacy for all community members.

If they have nothing to hide then let the cameras roll whenever they are on duty. Too many stories of footage disappearing when it actually matters.
