We are concerned about the Boise City Schools new dress code policy. As citizens of the Boise City School District, we would like to be included in a conversation and possible reform of the 2022-2023 dress code.
We feel that several of the codes are unreasonable. We also have concerns about the costs of attaining required clothing for the low-income families in the district.
We would like to put the 2021-2022 Dalhart, Tx dress code policy forward as an example of what we feel a more appropriate policy would look like.

I have been hearing from so many families who are genuinely worried about how these new requirements will affect their household budgets. It is clear that this policy ignores the financial reality for too many of our neighbors.

Seeing this kind of momentum confirms that I am not the only one struggling to manage these new costs for my children. Your responses remind me that we all deserve a seat at the table when policies affect our families so directly.

We need work around what the families can afford to do and not a burden on them
My son was just attending a private catholic school two years ago and had the same dress code as our school administration is now pushing. When my son moved here and started school his biggest joy about it was that he no longer had to wear said uniforms for it was absolute torture for him. We would rather attend school somewhere else than go right back to the environment we just ran from. This is not a military school or a private school. This is a PUBLIC school. Let the kids express themselves within reason. Thank you.
it’s Ridiculous requirements
Due to the rising cost of EVERYTHING and the added cost of school breakfasts & lunches that will no longer be free to all students now is not the time to impose such a strict dress code. A lot of the children who will be most negatively impacted by such a totalitarian dress code come from lower income households. A fact of life is that kids will always blow out knees in their jeans. Not all parents can afford to go buy their kids new jeans at the drop of a hat. If you follow through with the dress code proposed you will be unjustly shaming these kids for things completely out of their control. While I do agree that a detailed dress code would be acceptable such as the dress code in place in Dalhart, TX I find it quite disturbing that our school administration is more concerned about what the students are wearing than what they are learning. We are a PUBLIC school in a rural community not a private or charter school in an urban area. Unless you, the school board, will be purchasing clothing & food for our children then leave the parenting to the parents.

my daughter shouldn't be getting sent home for her shirt straps, she is there to learn not to get measured by teachers all day. this is getting so out of hand
