They actually listened and reversed the walking ban for everyone in Pine Forest! I am still staring at the email in total shock because I really thought we had a much longer road ahead of us but for now the kids can finally walk home from school like they should …

Hello neighbors! As some of you may know, Reeves Elementary students are no longer allowed to walk home from school if they live Pine Forest. This has been a long battle between parents, administration, safety directors, etc which has resulted in students being required to ride the bus (which technically goes against their own policy of needing to live a certain distance from the school), or be picked up via car rider (which is already a congested mess and causes backups in traffic on Hummingbird). The district does pay for other neighborhoods to have walker paths, crossing guards, etc, but has so far been unwilling to accommodate Pine Forests. And no, this is not an HOA issue -I've checked.

Therefore, I've decided to start a petition and present to the school board on Nov. 18th. Anyone is welcome to join me at the meeting, but I'm hoping to collect signatures from as many people impacted by this policy as I can.

If you don't have students at Reeves, you can still sign our petition! Your tax dollars could end up going toward adding another school bus and driver to accommodate all the additional students riding the bus in our neighborhood.

If your student currently rides the bus or does car rider and you're perfectly happy with that arrangement, great! Please still consider signing the petition to support those of us who would like to have the option to walk from a school that is so close to our homes.

Thank you for taking the time to read and support!

I really never expected this much movement so fast and honestly it’s just wild to see people actually caring about the same bus headaches that keep me up at night. I keep checking the screen and thinking about how much easier it would be if we could just walk through the neighborhood like we used to before all this mess started.

Thanks for pursuing this Angie. The District is ignoring their responsibility to its students and parents. Will be there on the 18th.

The children in our neighborhood should be able to walk home from school. Find a way to make it safer, if there are issues. It is going to be an increase in cost to the district if you force the many students affected to ride the bus. Please be proactive and find a way to allow walkers. The savings to the district and school will be tremendous, not just in monetary value but also in the goodwill to and from the community.

While it is supposedly a safety issue, having the kids cross the campus at DuBose Middle School, polls were open yesterday at both schools while school was in session, allowing hundreds of voters to come in and out while students were there. It makes no sense. Fix it.

Makes sense Angie, I support it/you. I'm in favor of any common sense approach/path that is safe and easy to implement. May also help reduce any burden on bus and congestion in car rider line

Making kids ride a bus or have a car driver pick them up from a school that is within walking distance from home is excessive and, frankly, stupid.

Walking is exercise for healthy living habit forever. Safety walking home can be taught by parents. It is a parent's choice to decide choice of transportation.
