Redwood City is well known for honoring some well deserving groups by declaring a celebratory month for them. Pride month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Women’s History Month are among many such cherished local traditions.
A group of Redwood City and San Mateo County residents and businesses would like to propose a Police Appreciation Month to start on August 15-September 15, 2020. Our police have worked incredibly hard in the last few months preserving law and order in our city and have done a wonderful job of balancing many competing interests of our diverse and active community. Men and women in blue uniform deserve to see our love and care.
The activities proposed include a police flag raising ceremony at the County Museum Plaza.
Also, a young local resident has proposed installing a wall of gratitude on the County Museum Plaza where people can come and write their message of thanks to our police force. We would also encourage local businesses to think of some ways to show their gratitude by offering free coffee, discounts or something else special. We will distribute “back the blue” lawn signs to put in the front yards to greet the police as they drive by. We welcome community suggestions as to what would be other appropriate ways to add to the Month’s festivities.
If you support this idea, please write us a short letter of support and send it to [email protected]. A letter on your organization’s letterhead would be great, but an email would also work. We will present it to the City Council shortly.

The feedback I have received from residents highlights a deep desire to show tangible gratitude for our public servants. I am currently reviewing the community suggestions sent to my inbox and look forward to organizing these ideas into a formal plan for the upcoming ceremony.

Son in law is a policeman. I truly support law enforcement. What a thankless job. They deserve all the appreciation they can get
Thank you! I fully support our LE and am very appreciative of your efforts to show support and appreciation for the hard working men and women at Redwood City PD. Let’s not let a few bad apples mar the good efforts of so many well meaning and dedicated people.
Redwood city has a history of recognizing many worthy causes. Now, especially now is the time to recognize and show support for those that risk their lives to protect ours. Honor these men and women of our outstanding police force, its long overdue.
I regret that until the recent events I never thought to expressed my gratitude to law enforcement. We take too much for granted, but it is not an easy job and it benefits all of us.
As a former RCPD officer (1992-94) prior to lateral transferring to an agency closer to my home, I believe it’s time for a city to stand behind its police!
Where were you radicalized, Crazy Maria? Why would any police department want to be associated with someone as unhinged as you? You're an embarrassment. Racism has no place in our city.
We should appreciate every one. Police Officers have the most thankless job there is- it’s time to show our appreciation.

Police Officers deserve to be recognized. They put themselves on the line for us. Besides the recognition, it is important that Children will be educated about the police and their role in our society. And hopefully it will lead to less crimes.
