We feel that the suspension handed down to Carl Hagelin was unfairly imposed by NHL VP of Hockey and Business Development, Brendan Shanahan. Given consideration that Mr. Hagelin has no prior history of any malicious intent to injure another player, we feel that his suspension is not in line with punishments that were given to other players recently like Shea Weber (no susp, just a $2500 fine) or Matt Carkner (1 game susp). Intent should play a key factor in defining these suspensions, not the injury itself, and there was clearly more intent to injure on the parts of Mr Weber and Mr Carkner than that of Mr Hagelin. But Mr Hagelin's suspension exceeds that of Mr Weber and Mr Carkner.
