What good could an unarmed officer even be? Present himself/herself as a target and hope the armed assailant spends all of they're ammo on them?

For a resource officer to effectively protect from outside threats they should be armed. We have seen school shootings rise, how does an officer intercept/ stop this threat if not armed?

Our children deserve the same protection our politicians and entertainers do. They shouldn't be sitting ducks while at school.

Quite rediculous to disarm our officer after on 2 accounts of handguns have been brought to school. Not to smart.

You're putting the Children at Risk by not allowing them. Stead of putting them at risk by them carrying. There is no way that you can be safer without. How can he do anything about a possible shooting situation if he's not armed!

I never get involved with signing petitions, however, I feel this is a MUST! Please consider allowing this to happen. I understand that this is a touchy subject. It truly needs to pass. Especially since these people are normally retired police officers with the adequate training. Help protect the children in these school systems.

How can you expect to keep a unarmed police offer on grounds and expect them to protect against an active shooter? You are setting the kids up for failure

As a mother of two children in the district I demand action of MCCSC to take steps to protect our children. The remarks from the district following the 2 weapon incidents at BHSS were weak and a mere attempt to silence people. Law Enforcement Officers and Security Officers must be trusted to be armed in todays society. Background checks, previous experience and psychological testing can go a long way in hiring proper individuals. Funding for these positions in every school can be obtained, considering the fundraisers and thousands of dollars that are asked of the community and parents consistently. Any means necessary should be afforded to protect our children.

As an Oxford High School alumna who resides in Bloomington and has kids that attend MCCSC, I strongly agree to reverse the decision of unarming the SRO. I truly believe lives were saved in Oxford due to the SRO in place in the building armed and intervening and acting quickly. Please allow our trained armed officers the ability to have a chance to keep our kids safe should the unthinkable happen.
